Falls are a nice stop from the Motu campsite, only 5km away.
The Motu Falls viewed from the swing bridge are impressive. Once across the bridge you enter the Whinray Reserve which is a magnificent area of virgin forest. The walking track is on an old dray road so quite easy. This reserve has kiwi and many other birds. We spotted a rifleman, one of NZ’s smallest forest birds. The last 5km of road is gravel but fine, narrow nearer the falls. Parking is limited but a couple of spaces as you approach on the left for a camper or a little passed where we parked. There is a good turnaround a bit further down the road. No one else was there.
Lovely place, few kilometres from the free camp. Place around is clean and nice, falls are big and the bridge is swingyy ?
