So beautiful place. We loved it. There is a well maintained public toilet. No phone signal
Best doc camp so far. Said closed on doc site but was fine. Beautiful location, crystal clear river, lots of fire pits.
Stayed 1 night over Easter, was probably another 8-10 vehicles with camper and or tents but still plenty of space around. Easy access in our Subaru Forester, didn’t need AWD at all Toilets were clean but no toilet paper so make sure you bring some. The shorter walking track had a big slip about 5 mins in that we decided was too dangerous to get around given the length of the drop down to the river. A few mosquitos around but the citronella coils we had kept them away
15/01/2022 Stayed 1 nite. DOC camp. Flushing Toilets, only 1 working. Not sure if toilets cleaned on regular basis. No envelopes for money. Just put money in slot next to toilets. I had 8m motorhome. Parked down Flat area next to river. Overhead branches on sloping driveway need some trimming. If you have 3m high Van then expect to be scraped. Also getting out when tar seal is wet is dodgy. Nice place when its fine. Wind got up a bit. Over the bridge there's couple of walks. The 3.5km Maunganuku walk says 1.5 hours. Narrow in places. Had a few slips. I only went in 15 mins then turned around. Just be careful, long drop if you fall. Few pools to swim under the highway bridge. Cheap camping
Toilets disgusting rubbish everywhere I will write to DOC
Stayed here last night. Lovely spot. Lots of campers and overnighters. Will defo stay again
Very brief stop here. One look at the toilets and they were absolutely filthy. Can't believe they are charging for people to stay here
It's actually very nice spot. But that's all. The toilets are absolutely disgusting and the Campground isn't clean at all. (Which is sad because it's such a pretty spot) To go on, other mentioned rats and other animals, I didn't believe that first, sadly I even got to see them during daytime which is why I choose another Camping Spot. Just drive down the road and get to the next one (which is the completely opposite to that one).
We stayed here for a night over Easter Weekend. Am absolutely disgusted with the toilets not being cleaned for goodness knows how long... No envelopes to put your money in.... Human faeces and baby wipes throughout the walking tracks (I wonder why?) and couldn’t figure out why dogs were running around when it’s a no go for dogs DOC camp.... A beautiful place but check it out before you set up, that’s our warning....
Planned to stay a couple of nights but absolutely disgusted with the toilet facilities, human waste through the walking tracks, dogs running around no leads, thought no dogs allowed!!!! Where are the DOC rangers to police this and where are the cleaners to clean the facilities... What are we paying for???
