On the side of the road, no toilets, and no network at all but nice place
No toilet there but there is at the other parking
The campsite is exactly located here : (-39.7439225, 176.9490697) There is no toilet at the free campsite, but toilet are accessible at Maraetotara falls : (-39.7484119, 176.9363829). The phone signal is good. When we visited, the river and falls were not opened because of erosion disorder. There is space at the campsite for approximately 10 vehicles. We were only 2 during our stay.
It took a while to find the spot; it wasn't quite pinpointed on the map. But the signs there made it clear. You're on a quiet road among the cows. Very idyllic. We were the only ones there and had a wonderfully peaceful night. Right next to the waterfall.
Seems like there is no camping spot. Right next to the road, very busy, no sign that allows stay there over the night. We didn’t feel comfortable and leaved. Would not recommend
Great spot for swimming and spend time at the river. On sunny summerdayscan be crowded. Two parkings, one with a toilet. No specific camping area, but freedom camping for self contained vehicle in the parking area.
Just a small patch of gravel right next to the main road, the picture is very misleading. Carpark next to the falls had broken glass on the floor and grafitti everywhere, felt a bit dangerous so we didn't stay. Waterfall also had grafitti all over it and random debri (including a traffic cone??) which was quite off-putting to swim.
Came at night so missed the actual FC site and went up the hill parking in the roadside parking by the actual falls. Found the proper site back at the bottom of the hill which can take my 13 Mt ute+caravan. Right beside a great fishing spot.
Didn't see an actual area, nor designated signage here for camping... There are two pull offs; the first next to the washroom block, and the second further down the road, which lands you on the trail directly above the falls. This app pin drops you in between the two. Both are just some parking stalls on the side of the narrow road. Probably not great for larger units.
The area is on the flat at the bottom of the hill at the start of the track. There is a toilet up at the parking area closer to the swimming hole.
