Spot is nice especially with the waihi falls but no phone signal and the toilets were full of mosquitos. Also a bit weird to get there but we were alone.
Good views. 2 min from waterfall. Not a lot of parking and no markings. Hole toilets but clean, no water. 2 big tables in the shadow . No phone signal so download map before
Absolutely freezing this time of year, woke up to frost on the windows and grass but wow what a gorgeous place! And the frost did add to its beauty I will say… decent toilets open all night, small picnic area, and a MUST DO short walk to Waihi Falls. A true NZ bush experience, no service just the sound of sheep, birds, and waterfalls.
Drive in off Hwy2 is through not particularly inspiring farm country and pine forestry. But we had the whole site to ourselves which was nice to wake up to. Falls themselves are pretty - set in a tiny remnant of original forest. Looks swimmable enough though I would be wary as there's alot of sheep paddocks upstream. No phone signal pretty much until you're back near the highway so preload entertainment 'if that's what you're into'.
Great spot, people came throughout the day but no one stayed overnight, drop toilets were clean and there’s picnic tables to eat, no marked spots so plenty of space (no phone signal)
Small parking lot (space for about 5 cars) with a new toilet block. Outhouses with toilet paper and soap dispensers, no water. There are covered table benches. The path to Waihi Falls is, unlike what was described in previous comments or directly on site, neither steep nor particularly long. It took us no more than 3 minutes on the stairs. The water didn't look very clean, so we decided against swimming here.
What an unbelievably beautiful place! The waterfall is 10 mins walk from the car park and you can swim in it. Best to check online before arriving re if the algae levels are safe as can be affected by heavy rain and there’s no signal at the site. If travelling from the south, it’s a much longer gravel road (20mins) to get to it, but if then leaving north it’s only about 5mins. Totally worth it for the falls. Suggested to not swim alone though- so as a solo traveller I just accompanied others.
Easy gravel road to get here. Stayed here to make the trip more worthwhile as the waterfall only takes 10-15mins. Good toilet although door doesn’t lock. Undercover benches… just us and one other van. Council came in the morning to measure the area but were friendly and happy with us camping self contained.
Great place for one night!! The fall is very impressive! We were by ourselves there. The toilets are very clean.2-3km total of gravel road but not hard and was easy to drive with our campervan. No data at all. Don’t know if the water is ok to drink. Thank you for the people who keep this car park clean
Attention au jour de pluie !! Ne vous mettez pas dans l’herbe sauf si vous avez un 4W Je me suis retrouvée bloquée Par contre la cascade est superbe
