Avoid at all costs. I called the police and left the free campsite at 10:30 PM because I didn't feel safe (I'm a woman traveling alone). There were completely hysterical people screaming, arguing, driving dangerously (drifting without tires and creating sparks), and with the music extremely loud.
good place, nice view! easily accessible toilets and water. be wary as there are only 4 spaces for campers.
3/4 spaces and by the road, although not very trafficked. Some dubious people stopping by the bathroom during the evening but safe all round. Bathrooms were rather clean but very windy, not bad for one night but would rather stop by Whangarei Heads. A local gave us 2 fresh snappers tho!!
Filthy toilets and right by the water, so pretty windy.
Quiet and pretty place
Good view of the water and good toilets. Drinking water is nearby too. Only downside, there’s not many spaces, and in rain the ground floods a lot so be prepared to get your feet wet!
Very nice spot on the waterfront with a toilet and drinking water. We turned up at about 7pm and there were 3 camper vans parked, another van came along about 8pm so it was quite a tight squeeze with 5 vans but was fine enough! Some youths turned up at the adjacent playground about 2am but they didn’t stay long and didn’t bother anyone in the vans
Absolutely idylic spot across from a decent toilet block and reserve. Drinking water near the toilet block and playground too. But we left because, although there is 3 kms of reserve around us, 2 drunk local women pulled up and set up a tent 4 meters away cursing and boasting how they were going to get so drunk and get their you-know-whats out and yell and party thru New Year's Eve. Such a bummer it was lovely until they came. So we left for Patua Bay in hopes of quiet.
Parking with a nice view, toilets a bit dirty but functional, and a water point for drinking and rinsing your feet. Enough space for 5 medium-sized campervans and 4 large ones. We could hear cars passing by at night, but it was during the Christmas weekend, so perhaps the traffic was heavier than usual. It's near a children's playground, so there was some noise in the morning.
Arrived around 5 and we were the second van there. Comfortably fit 4 vehicles but could squeeze in another probably. Only 2 spots were flat but the other spots work fine. Bathrooms were open all night and fairly clean. Busy spot with visitors in the park. Would definitely stay again and recommend for a night.
