Very nice freecamp quiet and safe, dry toilets with paper nearby, good telephone reception and nice view on the bay and sunset.
Lovely spot with great sunset. Easy to find an even spot but there are some potholes and wet spots. Nearby toilets, a park and good phone reception.
Good spot, with amazing views. Was a bit windy when we were there but otherwise nice. The ground is a bit bumpy, but it's flat enough near the edge facing the estuary which you probably want to be at anyway! Toilets are x2 long drops, clean but a bit smelly. No water or rubbish.
Good spot but the floor is very uneven. Drive slowly and carefully as there are many holes. Toilets are close by, and the sunset is epic! So many birds at night come to feed on the beach as the tide is low. We even saw royal spoonbills. There's even a kids playground and picnic tables.
Quiet spot, pleasant bay with lots of birds. Plenty of parking
Nice a quiet spot to camp. There is a toilet nearby and a coffee cart at the end of the road. Felt very safe
It had been raining all day and it was too muddy to stand. We ended up cooking at the gravel park next to it before we were going to leave for another spot. A red car drove up there shouting and honking the horn at everyone standing there. One guy came out and started urinating out in the open… clearly drugged up or drunk. First unpleasant experience in NZ. Unfortunate, but I guess it can happen everywhere.
Cleanest toilets you ever did see on a free campsite. I'm standing inside it writing this cuz it's raining, and maybe I'm just drunk, but girl it's clean in here.
Nice calm place right by the water with a small beach in between. Good toilets but one of them ran out of toiletpaper the second day we were staying there unfortunately. A cafe just 50 meters down the road, didn’t try it but looked cute.
A lovely Freedom campsite with a great view at the sea while falling asleep. The map and instructions can be a bit complicated so here's the summary: non self-contained is allowed 1st of aug - 30th of nov in green area. Self-contained is always allowed in blue area. If you're not sure, look it up on their website. Can get muddy when rainy, so make sure you come early to get a good spot.
