Good space to pull up and park for the night. Flat, hard ground, great for vans. The $5 hot shower was amazing, especially after cold, wet days. Friendly staff.

Not very clear where to park. If you are coming from the highway park this side of the tavern. Only about 3 other camper vans, but space for a few more. Flat hard ground. You could pay for showers $5 a person. Owner was a bit blunt.

Good little spot to the side of the Tavern. Dump station, water refill and recycling station. Quiet little town, we popped in to the tavern for a drink, looked after by a lovely lady behind the bar, she even brought our food out to us in the van while we set up our bed in the van.

Didn't spend the night here but leaving a review as we found the shower super convenient and clean ($5 unlimited hot water) and the pub very welcoming. Thank you!

Good spot for an overnight stay. The parking lot is big and when we stayed, there were only a few other vans. The $5 showers are great; clean and unlimited. There is also a public toilet about a 2 min walk away if you need it after the pub closes.

Very good, in the bar parking lot with showers for $5. Pub toilets and therefore only open until 10 p.m.... Dump Point just across the street! Very good for one or two nights

Tokanui free campground (1 July 2025) has a solid rock base, not muddy. Next to a tavern that opens at 11 AM. Public shower may not be accessible early—we didn’t use it as the tavern was closed when we woke. Across the road is a public dump station and potable water. Originally heading to Fortrose, but it was too muddy due to the rain(it’s winter now)—Tokanui is just 15–20 km away. Toilets are open and clean. Recommended spot, and you can tip via the PDS tip box. Plenty of space and unlimited hot shower ($5) but the tenant was not friendly and we definitely didn’t felt welcomed. Toilets are at the end of the road as the tavern does not provide them for campers. Good enough for one night, but it can be very noisy since the parking space is right next to the bar.

Fine spot to spend the night! The staff at the tavern were friendly and for 5$ we could get a hot shower.
