So beautiful! Crazy views! Enjoy but don't feed the eels! Around the lake was about 6 hours trip for us. Whisky falls detour is worth it.
The morning fog by the very beautiful lake makes you feel like a fairyland
We enjoyed tha Lake Rotoiti Circuit trek a lot, stayed at Lakehead hut overnight. First day was 3 hour hike, the second (with shorter way=river crossing) took us 4.5 hours. I also recommend to do the Whisky falls detour. Track was easy, suitable for not experienced hikers, also possible to do as a one day hike (around 21km)
Nice smaller and longer tracks left of the water taxi. From accessible to over rocks, through muddy areas and even more varied. To the left of the Bush and to the right of the Lake, where you have access to the track from certain points. And everything accompanied by birdsong.
Very beautiful but so many bee's so didn't hang around too long
We did the Saint Arnaud track .... Beautiful! The climb is rough and very long (well 3h climb) but the view at the top is just wonderful, overlooking Lake Rotoiti and Mt Robert. Pay attention to the very aggressive wasps on the way, we both got stung just by walking ...
We stopped at the dock closest to the camp area/water taxi with no luck... But spotted the other dock closer to the toilets. Very cool! Did not expect the eels to be so plentiful nor so big!! It’s as if they live under the dock... Despite the torrential rain as soon as the ducks saw us with some crackers, our came as many as 50 large black eels. Who knew there was such a thing as fresh water eels. Worth a side trip especially if it’s a nice day - I imagine the view to be stunning.
Nice lake
To do absolutely
Really beautiful. We did 1 hour detour just to see it and were not disappointed. Lots of friendly ducks, not so friendly eels ;) and even 2 black swans swimming on the lake!Very peaceful, nice picture spot on the deck
