They charge almost like top-tier campsites—like Top 10—and at least now in August, there are no services whatsoever. The kitchen doesn't have gas, and if you want hot water for the showers, you have to pay by buying tokens. These tokens are at the park's visitor center, which closes at 3:00 PM. So, an absolute disaster. The only good thing is that it's close to the lake, but otherwise, in terms of service for the price you pay, it's terrible.
Wasn’t going to stop at visitors centre as pre booked online, glad we did, great friendly service and advice. We stayed in the middle of winter but drive through a week later, wow what a weather change can do, had it pretty much to ourselves when we stayed and following week sun was out and there were day trippers everywhere. Such a stunning spot
Most great spot l’ve ever been in NZ. Check-in was in visiter centre, staffs were very kind and helpful. No kitchenette, 4 rings of gas stove and boiled hot water machine.
Gorgeous setting and even when busy, you're not packed in right beside your neighbours. Hot showers have been restored. Sandflies are definitely an issue. Had 2 bars for phone signal the whole time.
It has a beautiful view of the lake but it ends there. The pictures kind of imply you can get a spot with a view of the lake, you cannot. Cooking facilities is four rings on a single stove top so expect to eat early or late as it's not enough to go around. This review would be average/positive if it wasn't over $54 for two people and paid, limited time showers on top of that. Honestly, just turn up for the lake and move on to cheaper
That $25pp with booking fees, plus an extra $2 per shower, I'd have hoped for more than these facilities. One stove with four rings for the whole campsite, no bins and water runs cold in the kitchen. The location is beautiful but that was tainted by the high price for minimal facilities.
Great host and helpful guys at the info centre upon check in. Lots of great walks around, beautiful views! Laundry area, hot showers. Super chill vibes here-love!
Hot showers are working again! You need to get tokens at the visitor centre, $2 for 6 minutes of hot water. Nice and quiet campsite. Pretty location right on the lake.
No electricity other than solar powered lights so cold showers but they are clearly working to fix it. Beautiful views from the site and helpful host
There is no drinking water
