Seems to be Non Self-Certiefed ONLY. Somewhat mixed reviews about that but considering how strict the council seems about regulations here and handing out fines regularly, we didn’t want to risk staying here and looked for another spot.
Next to a black sand beach with 2 natural night bathroom and a shower pole. We were the first one there at around 18:30. Didn’t notice any drug nor harassment activity like previous comments.( not sure if it’s weather related-gloomy night)
Beware!!! Don’t stay more than one night, and only for NON-Self Contained vehicles, in exactly the spots shown!! Otherwise You will definitely get a $400 ticket; And this Council WONT CANCEL YOUR TICKET, in any circumstances!! Avoid the $400 TRAP!!!
Stayed here in a NSC van for one night. Spot was amazing right on the beach, there were a couple other cars camping here the night we stayed. Toilets were very clean and the facilities in general are great (outdoor beach shower). Really amazing spot, I wish we could have stayed longer but it says only one night in 30 days period.
Only for non self contained vehicles! We arrived in a self-contained vehicle and wanted to stay overnight, but there were only six spaces, which were outlined in yellow, for non-self-contained vehicles. We then called the number provided on a billboard at the entrance to the parking area. A friendly man from the New Plymouth District Council told us that we were only allowed to stay overnight in one of those spots if we arrived in a non-self-contained vehicle; otherwise, we could be fined $400.
Within a minute, some local arrive, find me and ‘kindly’ explain me, that Iam parking on wrong spot even with my SC, that Iam gonna get 400. Seems they monitor it regularly, maybe have nothing to do instead. The village also has lots of strange individuals and closed shops 😒. But the beach is good
$400 fine if you don’t park your car in the right spot, the council will get you 5am on a Sunday. We came in at 11pm and couldn’t see any specific place to park, so we stopped and went to bed and woke up with this fine… be careful I guess or don’t go here
This beach is lovely! Enjoyed chatting to a couple of friendly retired locals. However later evening the vibe changes, with cars pulling in and out until the wee hours as per previous comments, including one driver who did a burnout on departure. Such a shame!
Toilets ok, cold outdoor shower. Plenty of space, direct access to the beach and plenty of bins for sorting etc.
There are 6 spots for non self-contained cars. Got there at around 9pm ,was lucky to still have 2 NSC spots left.
