Lovely place! Super clean toilets & a shower that’s very good, $2 for 2 mins but a welcome bonus! Gardens are a nice walk around too! Cafe closed the week we stayed which was a shame! No phone signal but the cafe had/has wifi. Also as have some common decency to NOT use the sinks to wash pots… as the signs also say, places with clean facilities like this won’t stay open forever if people abuse them!
Such a hidden gem! Felt really safe and quiet with really lovely clean amenities - even a shower which is such a bonus. The gardens are stunning so definitely stop for a wander around - some of the most beautiful public gardens I’ve seen, and everything is free! Self contained parking area is the top car park, and the 24hr toilets/shower are down the stairs and to the right when you walk in the entrance. Please keep everything clean and tidy so this lovely place will stay open for campers!
Absolute top place to stay! Free showers that you can use $2 for 2 mins hot water, good toilets and the cafe is lovely. If you get there before it opens password is “Founders” for the wifi. The walks around the park are awesome.
Really lovely to spend the night at a free campsite where the toilets are clean , a shower and some beautiful gardens to wander around in the evening as they stay open and are free ! Plenty of room in the top car park
Really nice spot for a night with clean facilities (toilet/shower) open 24/7. 2 NZD for a hot quick shower, colds are free. Just one shower. Felt very safe (female, solo). Beautiful gardens for a walk, café around (9.30am-2.30pm). Free Wifi at the café (password as mentioned before), no password required at the lodge’s guest wifi.
Beautifully situated. The drive there in the campervan in heavy rain was exciting due to the many curves. However, it was a wonderful experience. The café is only open from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm. Breakfast prices are perfectly reasonable. Everything is clean, and a hot shower for $2 is absolutely fantastic. A good starting point for several hikes.

Fairly quiet spot. Never felt unsafe here. The stars here are immaculate, genuinely breathtaking! The bathrooms are also very clean! If you want to have a shower it’s a $2 coin. Only one shower with VERY limited hot water so wait your turn. The road there is quite narrow so be prepared to pull off to the side. Also there is a small café with wifi. (One of the comment below has the wifi password). Overall (as a solo male traveler) I’d recommend here 8.5/10. Ps phone signal is 1 bar. Not very good
Great freedom camp! Lovely gardens, and the toilets and showers were super - situated down the stairs from the cafe. Thank you to a previous comment saying the Pukeiti WIFI password is 'Founders', though this only works close to the building.
Showers, toilets, beautiful walks, a cafe, what more could you ask for? WiFi password is Founders :) very much enjoyed my stay here! Just be prepared for the poor phone service!
