A constant stream of cars going back and forth all night, hiding behind a specific tree looking for something specific? You never know. It was really scary for a solo woman; I didn't sleep a wink, I was alone at the campsite. Especially since a car decided to park right next to me at 3 a.m., as if trying to force me out (there were no other cars and plenty of space). Anyway… avoid it.
Nice location, safe from the wind and quiet. 3 campervan seats and 1 for tents. Separated from small hills that leaves a very pleasant privacy during a quiet night by the sea. Toilets, tap and toilet papers on site. No telephone reception. Beautiful beach against the bottom!
Beautiful beach and cliffs at sunset. Level pitch and very quiet night. Great views of Mt Taranaki on the road in. Toilets good but as others have said, take a torch!
We pulled in at 4:30pm and saw 6 campervans. We didn’t want to break the rules so moved on. Beautiful site though.
Nice spot by the beach, didn’t feel spooky. There was no service, the toilets where clean but dark so take a head torch even in the day. The sign says 3 vehicles max, but there is space for a few more.
We travelled as a couple with a dog, in winter, maybe that made a difference... We were a bit spooked and unsure if going to this spot because of the previous reviews.. but we still tried it out and it has been fine with us. We arrived at 8pm, maybe 2 cars drove in&out around at 9/10pm, but nothing else "weird". Friendly walkers the next morning. No phone signal.
Beautiful sunset on the black sand beach, but zero phone signal. The toilets were open when we arrived but they were locked by 7:30pm and still weren't open by 8am the following morning.. It says self contained on here but there is a patch of grass with a sign for non-self contained vehicles so we pulled up here in our sleeper van and had no problems. Great spot if you're heading to Egmont the next day. We got there about 5pm for our spot and a few cars turned up but had to leave as it was full
Nice site overlooking the beach, very peaceful and lots of space when we arrived late. No signal and toilets were closed however
Caution - Beautiful place but we had a sleepless night. Around midnight we noticed lights flashing in the parking area. Another Van parked close to our caravan 2 more vehicles arrived and circled the parking area. We started our vehicle and as we headed out of the camping area 1:00 amish one of the cars followed us. We stopped laid on the horn and suddenly the car behind us speed off followed by 3 other vehicles. Not exactly sure what was happening but felt very targeted
lots of locals but the ones we talked to were all super nice, i would still be careful as a woman travelling alone but since im with my boyfriend it was all fine. bad reception all around the place but very beautiful black sand beach
