Goregous black sand beach and it was empty! Much better than Piha but be carreful on the road
Beautiful beach. Slightly winding road, but definitely worth it!
Spacious beach with high cliffs. If you look at the waterfall, you can definitely go for a walk on the beach.
Wild, remote, beautiful and deserted. Wonderful beach for walking for several hours, sand reasonably firm. A baby seal resting on the edge of the surf today. We walked along the beach to Pararaha and back via Tunnel Point following the Hillary Trail markers. Karekare Road is pretty narrow and windy with quite a lot of overhanging trees which made it a bit challenging in our 6m camper, but so glad we came.
A really nice beach feeling relatively well isolated. If you park on the 1st car park you have the go across the stream to get to the beach which can be tricky or even dangerous I guess. After the small bridge is a walk which gives you access to the beach through sand dunes and avoids the stream. The road down is a bit steep and quinte windy ... Which is nice :-)
Totally different than Piha. A windy road, sometimes difficult to see other cars so take care! If you go to the right from the main carpark, you see a beautiful nature around. Today i couldnt walk from here to the beach, you have to cross the water. You can also go to the left from the car park, probably its easier to visit the beach from that direction.
Beautiful long beach with black sand and no tourists.
It’s a nice wide and long black sand beach. If you’re in the area worth to check out, but I wouldn’t make a huge detour to see it.
Very beautiful beach. We go there one day or by chance there is only us 2 ... It is very beautiful, as piha but can be even a little more "charming". A real movie set ... to do absolutely .. Black sand beach is not every day.
Very beautiful beach. We like it more than Piha!
