Only the 4 or 5 yellow marked slots are for freedom camping. Sleeping at another spot was leading to a 400 NZ$ fine. By ranger at night. Nice experience for our 1st night in NZ

Good place and great view. Just watch out, only the slots on the right side are for self contained. Ranger been there at 10 pm.

Felt very lucky to sneak in a night here before it closed off for the season. Facilities are great, beautiful outlook to the beach. Very safe. 5 standard car parks available.

Really nice place to stay, outdoor showers (cold water), clean toilets (compared to some free camps). If there is place absolutely worth to stay overnight.

If space is available, cool place with restrooms, cold shower and water station.

Very nice place, nicer than the other freecamp next to the surf camp. 4 pitches, 2 cold showers, toilets and drinking water point. Next to a children's playground, but it's really not a problem. Please note that the freecamp is not allowed between mid-December and February.

Nice spot. Two outdoor showers and toilets at the site. Next to the beqch and the playground.

We stayed here for two nights. Both nights there were places empty. Toilets not so clean and the bins were full (probably because it was on a weekend). Both nights a ranger came to check on the vans and took pictures of the plates but nothing else. The parking spaces are next to some kids playground so we had noice pretty early. Other than that its a a good place to stay. Pretty safe and right in front of the beach. Also has tables and bbq.

Nice location right on the beach. 5 spots but there were only 4 (I got the last one) because big campers were taking up too much space. No toilet paper in the washroom and there were no lights so the toilets were kind of creepy at night as a solo female but that’s just how it goes I guess. No rangers came around and there were a few other vans parked in the non SC spots so take your chances especially nearing the end of summer
