Google maps now showed the correct road but anyway it’s clearly marked with signs that no access to DoC campsite with closed road . Campsite itself very basic , clean toilets. Peace and quiet. Plenty of wildlife . There was 1 more camper van except ours

As others mentioned before, the access road is closed from one side. Go to the DoC website to check how to get there, Google Maps did not indicate the road closure unfortunately. You have to take a long gravel road to get there but if you take it really slow, it is not a problem. The campground itself was very basic but lovely. There weren't too many people staying there (we stayed there for one night between Christmas and New Years). It was in the middle of nowhere so maybe next time I'd prefer staying somewhere a little more accessible but otherwise a pleasant experience.

Fun gravel road, the stream is awesome, fire pits, free space even on the 1st of Jan, very quiet. The toilet/sink are bad though, but overall one of the best places we stayed.

Really quiet and peaceful campsite, with easy access to a swimming hole and flushing toilets. Water is available but needs to be boiled. It’s down 5km of gravel road but our car with a low wheel base managed just fine. Backline Road between Colliers Road and the Otaio Gorge Scenic Reserve is closed but you can come via Blue Cliffs School Road just fine. We were the only people staying, but there was a farmer and other locals around in the morning so not completely alone.

Stayed here last night, as did one other. Decent sized grassed area, mostly level. Couple of flush loos, fie-pits and right by a babbling brook which is really nice, especially at night. There is a ‘swimming hole’, but with blue-green algae, so I wouldn’t go in. We took the backroads from Waimate, gravel, slow, windy all the way, but not too bad. Keep it clean guys! Nice and quite campsite, looks like people are actually living there. Gravel way from Otaio which is okay. Really rocky road if you come from Timaru. If you go there and come from Christchurch, drive all the way to Otaio and then turn to get to the campsite

Wonderfully quiet and peaceful spot. Quite sheltered and zero traffic . Our first stop after Chch and loved it. Didn't see another soul ???

It was my first night sleeping in my car. Well this campsite learn me that it was better to pay $6 more and stay close to the road. I was alone on The camp and really the very long gravel road to get there is not worth it. I regret my choice. Just don't go you will lost your time.
