Lovely spot by the river which we were lucky enough to have all to ourselves. The toilet is closed during winter, so only for self contained during that time. There was a warning about the area being prone to flash flooding, so possibly avoid if it looks like rain. It's super dark at night, a great dark night experience where we could see all the stars. Was lovely. Lots of mooing cows the night we stayed, and they went all night long. Not sure if that's seasonal or they are unusually loud 🤣
Beautiful spot where you are able to park right near the stream. Almost no people. One drop toilet which was very clean and nice.
Kia ora travellers! If you are in search of rural little hideaway, then you have found the spot. The river is gorgeous (please check LAWA websites “can I swim here” for Ōroua River before swimming). Peaceful, not many others there in December when we visited, trees provide the perfect amount of shade. The toilet (long drop) was great, no other facilities but no problem in such a beautiful location. Even some friendly cows in the paddock nearby. We loved it!
it was an unreal spot. you can chill by the lake all day. stargazing at night, sky was clear since nothing is around. the road up here is a bit far but def worth it if you have the time. there were no open toilet when we were there. not a lof of ppl are coming this spot in the winter i think bcs we had the whole spot to ourselves!
Great place! There is a lot of space! Possibility to make a small campfire. The river right next door. A toilet open until March 1st. Honestly great! I recommend!
Loved this spot, so private. Roughly around 8 campers dotted around but so much space could fit 4x that if needed and still be private. No maximum. Toilet clean (longdrop) river freezing but so refreshing to swim in. No major bugs, good cell reception. The road to get there is a little windy but the views are incredible and so worth it. Wouldn't travel the road at night. Looked like there were set ups for small campfires but we didn't do one. Could have easily stayed 2 nights but only stayed 1.
Fantastic spot down a winding road, quiet and peaceful near a river with stunning views!
We love this spot! It’s so quiet, the drop toilets are okay. But it’s right on the river which you can swim in. We stayed here for a while because it’s so peaceful.
Such a lovely little spot, so quiet and whanau friendly. The awa was a nice little swimming spot for the kids.
Nice spot in the nature, no other campers there. At 10am arrived a school doing outdoor sport :)
