The worst place we have stayed in 3 weeks of the South Island. The surrounding area is not great and full of dodgy looking people. Cars beeping randomly late at night (I’ve seen in other reviews that this is to disturb campers). Lots of groups shouting as they walk through the car park late at night - one of those things I suppose. I didn’t particularly feel unsafe but unwelcome. This is an overall review for Nelson to be honest.
Was there the other night, a lot of drunk people came through late at night and kids at 1 am were purposely running into my campervan and throwing things at it. If you are in an emergency then go as it was just one other van and myself, but avoid when possible.
We decided to spend the night here but we didn't really understand if we had the right or not. The change that is taking place in Nelson is complicated to see. In this parking lot, technically whether you are blue or green it is fine. The only downside is the toilets but the surrounding parking lots have them so it's acceptable.
This is the WORST place we have stayed in the month we've been travelling the South Island. We had tried to get into a site on the outskirts of Nelson in Stoke in a park but it only had 3 bays which were occupied & we did not want to chance a fine. Wakatu is a dirty, dangerous & very noisy carpark. Cars were using it as a race track all night with loud music blaring, smoking, & drinking in what's supposed to be an alcohol free zone. Carpark littered with broken beer bottles. Only 1 hours sleep!
Good spot, we had no issues with the noise. As mentioned in a previous comment, the little pub up the lane is very cool and funky.
It’s ok. Loud surroundings and bright lights at night, made it hard to sleep. But nearby there’s a great bar called The Dog’s Bone, really recommend checking it out. We went late for a drink and used their toilets before bed - lovely bar.
Good spot in the city center. We stayed 2 nights during the weekend and it was calm. It’s a 2 minutes walk to the public toilet in the Anzac parc.
Parking in the citycentre. Great location. In the night there was a car with people that thought it was funny to put loud music on. But it was for a short time. Slept good.
This is a decent alternative to staying at Montgomery. It’s only a 2 minute walk away from the Montgomery Square bathrooms, water, etc. Each time I stayed here, there were more than enough spaces. The parking lot and store lights are bright, and they will shine into your vehicle.
Quiet for a city centre on NYE. Close to everything you need and only a 2 minute walk to some toilets
