Trouble with this spot is that there are only 9 spaces and you can only book in from 8pm. We first arrived at 6pm and all spots were taken except 1 - if you like to play by the rules you would have no chance here its just too popular
Dogs won’t wake you up, just fine u at 12:30am in the morning.
Reason for the rules & time restrictions is it’s very frustrating for locals trying to actually use the events centre - getting their kids to afterschool sports etc. and struggling to find a park as there are way too many campers there outside of the designated times, some clearly not self contained & using the grounds like a campground (which it’s not). The events centre is a very busy and well used community facility, so lucky that there are 9x carparks available for overnight camping.
Noone checks in, listed as available. Get there its full and theres a sign stating its full. However on the online live stream that queenstown offer it stated most were still available. Ridiculous parking availability in queenstown for a campervan, very uninviting. Had to walk over 30 mins just to get food
I don't understand the principle of allowing free camping from 8 pm. Most vans arrive early, so if you want to be within the rules, you won't find a spot, but if you plan to arrive early, you risk getting a fine... It's a shame, considering it's impossible to find a spot in town because everything is taken before noon.
Probably nobody follows the rules - you should arrive after 8pm but everybody is camping here hours before, so when you want to follow the rules and arrive exactly at 8pm, you have no chance to get any spot. There are also people camping without self-contained vehicles. We arrived at 8pm and thought that a few cars will leave so we were about to wait we asked them whether they're leaving but we were told they were staying. People also ignore the check-in so the place seems available but it's not
A lady from the doc was here today at 5PM to make sure nobody was parked before the right time
Got a $400 ticket at 1:07am on Wednesday 😎 Much appreciated by the officer on night duty. They didn’t even knock on the window, just let you sleep in luxury.
Good place just outside the city. Showers and wifi inside the building (wifi is free). Just have to be early to get a spot. The city officials comes to check the parking lot pretty early in the morning, so watch out if you park in the regular parking lot.
The night is fairly quiet considering the proximity of the airport. It's best to have a well-insulated vehicle. Roadworks on Highway 6 make access difficult and lengthen the journey to the public restrooms located at the bus terminal near the other free campsite, several hundred meters away. The swimming pool and showers are also nearby.
