Large, quiet campsite, close to the walking trails in Remutaka Forest Park. Few campers (Easter Monday). Good 4G signal. Only downside: no sun by 4 pm in early April.
Closed in winter from May to October
Great doc campsite 1hr drive from Wells. Very quiet and peaceful, lots of space. Clean toilets and cold shower. Communal cooking area with bbq. Gates close 8pm in summer. Lots of hikes and short walks around. Very good mobile reception!! :)
2 days here and it was too much. No hot water as indicated on the site. Very dirty toilet and shower Doors close at 6 p.m. and no way to contact anyone if you arrive late I advise against
Stayed in an unpowered tent site for 3 days, place is really nice and quiet, flushing toilets, 3 sinks for dishes, showers (cold), and rubbish bins, plenty of space for cars and vans. Catchpool valley gate (5min drive from campsite) closes automatically at 8pm in summer which means you have to get in before then if you don't wanna spend the night with the howling wind and the roadkill possums, this was the main drawback of the campsite as we wanted to get a feel of the Wellington nightlife, but it was a great place nonetheless.
Such a beautiful and huge place to sleep, clean toilets with paper and soup, free shower but cold. The kitchen is empty (only a couple of bbq) you need to bring everything. Several sinks to clean your dishes. The water isn’t potable, you can boil it or bring your own.
It says the gates are closing at 8pm but they were already closed at 7:55
On arrival no folder to sign in or paper to put in windscreen that I have paid… all water is non drinkable and needs to be boiled before drinking, brushing teeth,….(have to wait for water to cool down again before brushing teeth… ) Cooking station has 2 large plates. One was clean but didn’t work the other was covered in burnt stuff and grease. A man came and checked on everything but just ignored the disgusting state of the plate…he just put up the „out of order“ sign of the other plate (then stood by his pickup truck for 5min so wasn’t in a hurry either). Bathrooms and shower are in bad condition too very dirty. Men’s urinal can’t flush at all so smells terrible (all nondrinking water too). Kinda want my 10$ back and definitely not staying longer. Do not recommend!
Water taps were not turned on and the flush toilets looked full / had been used, but would not flush… not good.
Someone commented about a strange man hanging around in 2019... well it appears he is still here! I didn't read that review before arriving but we were greeted with a very strange man once it went dark. He appeared behind us out of nowhere and then said sorry for startling us and carried on walking. We were parked next to the bushes near the toilets and he was in there making noises and throwing things? Then we went into our camper car and we could hear him outside our car. He was talking to himself and making a clanking noise. Then we went to the toilet together around 9.30pm (because we felt uneasy with this man) and we could hear him in the male toilets talking to himself in the DARK??? Then we came out of the toilet and he appeared out of the men's toilets and he said he had lost his phone? Then proceeded to walk into the grass with no shoes on and no torch? It was wet weather too. I also saw him walk over in the dark to the only other camper that was here and then he stayed there which made me think he was peeping and then I saw him walk all around the bush. It was VERY weird and absolutely not ok behaviour. It made me and my sister feel very uncomfortable and on edge. Also if this is infact the same man from the 2019 review (which seems very likely) then something needs to be done to move him a long? As a strange man walking around in the dark with no torch, talking to himself, walking close to everyone's campers and sitting in the male toilets with no lights? Just weird!!!! Would never return because of this man. Also the fact that you are locked in with him and can't leave is even worse.
