Nice spot with lots of nooks to camp in, bit overpriced for what you get, (3 drop toilets with no lids) but there are bbqs which were well maintained and seemed new! $20pp or $23pp for powered (only 3 powered sites). Two showers, one only cold and one hot. Both were free, hot shower just needed coin to activate, but it pops out the bottom so you can get it back. So many mozzies, but to be expected as you’re near water. 2 bars of 5G connection on 2degrees. Didn’t book ahead and it was fine.
For the tired facilities it is overpriced ($18.50 per person but another $2 for a shower), you’re paying for marked out sites and long drop toilets that have dodgy locks. It’s nice dogs are allowed and it was fairly quiet on a Friday night. Waterhole not signposted so hard to know how far to go down river. We stayed as it was close to Whangamata and we could have a combination of self contained and camping and wouldn’t otherwise. This says bookings required in peak but not needed.
Perfect for one night. You really feel like you are in nature. There were showers, had to pay for hot water, free for cold. No drinking water and only drop toilets. Amazing walks around the camp too :)
Really beautiful place, near the waterfall. On the other hand, $15pp and “hot” showers for a fee. Out of 5 minutes of showering, not even 1 minute of hot water. Very disappointed with the equipment in general which is very precarious: showers, construction toilets, a sink which is falling apart… In short, you have to go there for nature rather than the campground
DOC campsite pass exclusion! Pass is not valid here.

A lovely campsite with great natural environment, a lot of choices of parking that you can figure out your favourite site, the keeper is pretty chill and enthusiastic, she told me I was the first Taiwanese guest and wanted to give me a discount, and I literally got it! It was a great stay before I go for my next job in Whangamatā!
Cute spot next to a lovely waterfall walk and swimming holes. Lots of space in different fields and awesome glow worms at night! Quite a few bugs so take repellent if you’re likely to be nibbled on.
Loved this place! Highly recommend and would definitely stay again. Very peaceful. Beautiful walk through the bush to see mining tunnels (cant go in anymore due to health and safety rules but still interesting to look at from outside). 10min walk to a swimming hole. My only complaint is the showers - $2 for 5mins hot water. It went from boiling hot to freezing cold again and again for a few mins before staying cold. Better off just having a cold shower!
Nice and quiet place with lot of space. It is right next The waterfall track. Hot shower for 2$ (must have a coin) and payment is only cash. Be prepared for lot of bugs in dry WC.
