Lots of space, some grass some gravel. Perfect spot for freedom camping. Toilets and cafe in museum were amazing in the morning, option to leave a donation to the museum. Bins available also. Beautiful views as well, perfect freedom camping spot and felt safe.

Very remote, we were the only ones. Located directly between the road and rails, therefore a little louder, but okay. Toilets were very down and crowded. Probably never cleaned, but worked anyway. For a night in order.
15 sites for camper vans, all but one private. Some dump toilets with running non-drinking water. Quiet. Cooking shelter with non-drinking water. Small walkways to the river. $36 for two people per night, pre-book online only. Weak internet signal.
Personally I didn’t like the stay. I stayed one night before Tongariro Alpine Crossing (a winter group tour starting at 7am next day), so it was very convenient, but the lodge looked like full of long-term people which made me feel uncomfortable in there. The receptionist was unfriendly, the building is quite old. The price was $25 and it was available for non-self contained cars.
