We arrived at 8:30 PM and there were still plenty of spaces available. The road was lit, so we were able to take the gravel road without any problems. The toilets are at the nearby gas station. No problems during the night.
Plenty of spaces, but was busy by the time we arrived. Sheltered from the main road, careful if you arrive in the dark as the ground is pretty uneven in places. Good cafe onsite which opens at 0800.
Great place to stop over. Plenty of parking on grass if carpark area is full. Nice quite spot behind the museum, which opens early with friendly staff serving up great coffee and food.
Toilet with code, impossible to use
Nice large space and very chill. You feel nestled away behind the military museum and are actually surrounded by nature on the other side. Nice spot to stop over as it's pretty quiet and plenty of petrol stations. Public toilet is all just a few mins walk. Phone signal was available at decent levels.
Easy to park anywhere on the grass in the freedom camping area, very clean public toilets next door at the petrol station. Only downside is no fresh water tap anywhere and only small bottles available at shops.
A quiet and large (I think for about 20 motorhomes) free camping area with clean toilets on the other side of the road by the petrol station. Great view of the high mountains, when they're not shrouded in clouds.
Great spot with toilets not too far across the road. Didn't go to the museum but I would stop by and try it out on my way back through. Great location for exploring Tongariro Nat Park and Lord of the Rings locations
Not the most cosy location but good for one night. I was there with a few other campers. Quiet. Toilers are across the street next to Caltex. The one on the site ate locked (from the museum).
Good location with a great mountain view. There are toilets, but it's a bit noisy with the train and road nearby.
