We stayed here on the Friday night of the long weekend. We arrived at 2:30pm and there was a bus and two small vans parked up, they made room for us and we parked across the front of them still inside the designated lines. There were a few more vans that came later and parked in undesignated spots. The police came through at 2am but unsure if they fined anyone, all the other vans vacated early. Could easily fit 6 normal sized vans so unsure why they specify only 3 allowed but allocate 6 bays.
Great views right on beach front. However, cars showing up throughout the night (2/3am) and blasting music. Didn’t feel like the safest spot!
Enough room for 6 vehicles although others were parked out designated area. Security came by to do a check at about 1:30am and seemed to only knock on the cars outside the designated zone that were not self contained. One clean porto loo with sanitizer just a 2 minute walk outside the parking lot.
Very nice beach, toilets are terrible avoid these! You can walk down to the next beach flush toilets down the road which takes about 10min. Somenoisy car drive through or sit playing music at night so would avoid on weekends but on our stay this was quite after 11pm.
Be aware that the police conduct regular checks. If you don't have a space in the designated area, you could receive a fine of up to $800. There are cameras right at the entrance!
Great spot, but just a heads up: you can only have one car per green site, with a maximum of three vehicles in total. We got fined because we had the car towed in one spot.
A very nice view and well frequented during the day, but be careful: no toilets. A horror at night! We "slept" there on a Friday night. Incessant comings and goings of noisy cars, music blasting until 6:30 in the morning!!! After 10,000 km in NZ for 6 months, we have never visited such a chaotic free camp.
Lovely view and got a space easily when arriving at 4pm. However, there were kids in the car park in their cars with speakers from 6pm until at least 10pm (this may just be luck of the draw but was our experience) and smoking so it smelt too. The people in the camper next to ours shouted at them but this didn’t stop them from blaring music. We went to bed around 10pm so if you’re a light sleeper we are not sure how long they were there but may affect sleep.
Loved it, of your vehicle (and others) are not too big, there might be even room for 6 cars/campervans. Park in the designated area and you will be fine! We've been checked with 6 vehicles parked in the designated area and had no problem. Don't let yourself scare you by the sign saying a maximum of 3 😉 just stay between the lines and you will be perfectly fine and enjoy the morning.
Good spot in front of the beach, calm. No toilets. Only 3 spots available, park in the designated area to avoid getting a fine :)
