Absolutely cracking spot. Right by a road but it's very quiet. Flush toilets are good and the view is beautiful.
Great camping spot. Not much noise from the road. You can walk to the seals from there and have a fantastic view.
One of the most beautiful free camps I’ve ever stayed at! A bit tight with all the other vans there but worth checking out. Good toilets very close by.
Fill three quickly even in winter, and by non-self containers cars
Excellent spot, close to large colony of fur seals and tasty sea food from the BBQ truck that leaves around 5. Brilliant night sky, recommend looking up. Toilets also available.
Stayed there on our second night in Kaikoura at the beginning of March. We loved It! Probably one the best free spot when travelling around NZ. Only problem: just 5 places. We got the last spot at around 1 p.m. and went afterwards to see the seals. Even a table with benches and roof with a really nice view.
My favorite of the free camps in Kaikoura. Lovely spot on the seafront. A seafood bbq and a small bar on a trailer next door in the day but gone in the evenings. Quiet spot with room for only a handful of vans. Clean toilets. Arrive early to be sure of getting a spot, full by 4pm on a Saturday.
Loved this overnight stop. Only 5 spots and was full by mid afternoon. 4 clean, flushing toilets. Warden came round at 7pm to check all the vans, we were gone by 7am which is when he apparently comes back to remind everyone to leave. Peaceful night, overlooking the sea.
6 sites only - 7am departure. One of the nicest freedom spots of late, right on the sea, clean toilets, bench with a shelter and very little traffic at night. The only issue is there’s so few spaces people park there during the day and disappear. Limited phone signal but enough
A very nice spot, right next to the road, but there doesn't seem to be much traffic at night. Very clean toilets and picnic tables. There were already six cars there, and I parked illegally because I was tired of looking for a place. In the evening, the ranger came and was incredibly friendly. He pointed out the time change that night and showed me two alternative campsites on the map. It's wonderful that there are such friendly people! Thank you!
