We really liked this spot. The road to get there is gravel and a bit bumpy, but we managed it with our old camper; you just have to drive slowly. Once there, there's plenty of space, and we saw at least one clean toilet. View of Lake Ohau. Cell signal was available on one of our two phones, but not the other.
Our favourite free camping spot of our trip. Serene, peaceful and such a beautiful lakeside view. Short section of gravel road to get here (<5km)
The day we arrived was windy so it was fine, not many sandflies, the next day Sunday heaps of sandflies shows after open the door. View is good though, little bit stinky toilet but okay
Too many biting flies, we left again
Lake Ohau is a beautiful, blue lake that is slightly off the beaten track so is very quiet. We stayed at one of the unnamed camps befor arriving at Bush Camp as part of the road was closed. Only complaint is that there are so many sandflies it made it difficult to sit out.
Our favorite spot so far. Beautifully situated!
Beautiful camping spot right by the lake. Unfortunately lots and lots of sandflies, so we decided to not stay the night. Two tidy long drop toilets.
An amazing spot, 4G signal is good
Road is open! Love this spot
Road was closed due to road works, so we couldn’t reach this campsite, nonetheless we found out that on the way there there are a lot of freedom campsites available along this lake. It is just not indicated on campermate. So go have a look. We stayed on a beautiful place not far from this campingspot. It was windy, but sunny. Without the wind you might encounter some sandflies, but the remote area and view makes the trip worth it!
