This town is just weird. So many weird people around and although next to new world I didn’t feel safe here which matched previous comments so I headed 40 minutes north for next freedom camping. The other spots in this town are dodgy too.

We looked at staying here but did not feel comfortable so went elsewhere. Is next to New World. The toilets are modern and clean.

I’ve camped all over the North and South Island, and this has been the first and only threatening situation. I checked every freedom camping spot in Wairoa and this one felt the most comfortable—until 3 a.m. A group ran through banging on doors, slamming the porta-potty, blasting music, swearing, laughing, and likely driving from site to site based on reviews. It was chaotic, loud, and unsafe. The area does not feel friendly or safe. I would never stay here again.

Free camp (with clean toilets nearby) which is fine for one night. There was a little homeless lady who had taken up residence at the toilets. She talked to herself and started singing and screaming from 6am. We've had better wake-ups ;)

Not scenic at all but very safe for a stop over or to base yourself while you explore the area. Patrolled by police regularly, well lit and tidy modern toilet blocks. My only gripe is the 1 ply toilet paper lol. 😁 2 other cars were parked up, barely any noise from traffic. I had a great sleep on my first night. I am a great though... I woke up to a half full car park in The New world and usual Friday morning bustle at 9:30am JM

Unfortunately, sleeping in a tent is forbidden.

A small spot next to a tiny park with decent toilets. Parking in the middle of the city, next to a new world that opens at 7, perhaps wasn't the best idea, and the streetlights were on throughout the night. Overall, everything was alright.

8/10 Nice safe town centre spot to overnight. Clean toilets, supermarket, takeaways and river all close by. Was quiet overnight but it is next to New World so delivery truck at 7.30am to be expected. Great stop over spot on your journey

Parking is in New World's car park ? so as with all supermarket car parks some interesting characters hanging around. Has toilets.

We arrived at 4am and had the feeling that every couple of minutes a car with loud music arrived Not quiet but the space and the toilet is okay.
