Peaceful night. Bit of traffic noise from highway nearby from 6am. Lovely grassy area beside river. Toilet other side of highway. Next to residential area so felt pretty safe. Friendly locals.
Central location right in the middle of town, just on the other side of the river from the main street. I was only the only van 2 nights in a row. (Mid-March 2026 so now shoulder season = less tourists?) Very quiet. Asphalt parking area so is flat.👍 No toilets but no problem for SCV.
02/19/2024 Good place with disposal and drinking water
It's okay for one night. No toilet, but relatively quiet and, unlike other places in town, not as lit. The public wifi didn't work.
Okay spot, as with previous review didn't feel over safe. Nearest toilets are half a km back into town.
Didn’t feel safe here despite police driving round at 1am. Youths arrived at 3am and sat there with engine running for a while, then drove off. To be fair nothing happened but then another car arrived an hour later to fill up from water tap and we just couldn’t get back to sleep. I guess we’re used to sites out of town, where there’s a load of vans. Flat, good water supply. Toilets 200m away on other side of main road. Chip shop just beyond that.
Very silent and wonderful site for a campervan.
A totally silent place to stay, with the dump station & fresh water available. Spent the night on my own, but was reassured by the ambassadors that it’s safe.
Wonderful place to stay. Dump station and potable all ok. What made it special, was the visit from Burnadette, an ambassador courtesy of Wairoa/Mahia freedom camping who checked all ok and gave maps etc. Thank you Wairoa. Certainly a Motor Home friendly town.
