Amazing campsite right by the beach! The cooking hut is big enough for 3/4 groups. I’d recommend staying here on the first day since Moari Beach Campsite isn’t that far away.
Great open spot close to the beach. Could be too open when it gets windy. Lots of sandflies!!
Pretty spot! The campsite has a gorgeous view, but it's very open and there aren't many secluded spots to pitch a tent. The shelter is a LIFESAVER if it rains/hails, especially with setting up/disassembling the tent, and handy for hanging up your food out of reach of rats! The toilet is nice for a drop toilet, too. =) The weather was pretty bad while we were there, so no kiwis - but lots of tuis, kaka, red-crowned parakeets and tomtits.
The campsite is beautiful and is directly located at the beach. Vodafone connection exists on the beach. We stayed another night spotaneously to walk a bit into the Nortwest Circuit. Best Kiwi spotting is around the hut on the lawn once it is dark. We succeeded two nights in sequence being surrounded by two Kiwis. Not to forget swimming in the sea and jumping from the wharf with high tide.
Nice hut and campsite. At night, around 11.30 pm, we were able to watch some kiwis and various possums. The only downside is the noisy door of the dorm in the hut. I woke up most of the times when some entered the room.
