Honestly better off going to Mangapohue Natural Bridge instead. We parked up and it’s no longer a look out, it’s practically abandoned. Even before checking the comments we felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. Might be good if you really need to stop but your next option is about 10 minutes away.
Very convenient if you’re doing the Waitomo Coves, windy drive up but the road is tarmac and good. The campsite is very basic - it’s pretty much a lay-by, but the road was pretty quiet through the night and we felt safe. There was also a picnic bench and some bins but they were overflowing so assume this isn’t maintained much. No view as the vegetation has grown over but the drive up was worth it - stunning scenery!
Ok to stay but not if your wanting a “Scenic lookout” No look out at all, many years ago it would have been, but all the vegetation has been left grow and obscure the view
It is a small parking lot along the road. There is no place that is level. Except for the honking of passing cars, it is quiet... You don't feel welcome there.
Was a nice spot to stop after an afternoon of visiting the nearby caves. Site is just off the road with a picnic table and garbage bin. Locals added a few honks through the night. Assume local pressure has resulted in the view point not being maintained beyond the picnic table and bin.
No view, except palm trees, nothing else; right on the street, but surprisingly cell phone reception
We loved this spot. Very calm during the night, no lights so you can enjoy the stars! No sign of campground but even the Waitomo's caves staff approved this place.
Kein Ausblick vorhanden.
The road is very well now. We really enjoy our night in this quiet place. You have a table and rubbish bins. The noise of the cars starts at 7 AM, so is perfect to have a good rest. Just 15 minutes from Waitomo Caves.
Arrived on site, just next to the road, there is a trash can, a table, more views, I saw better, it looks like a small path so that the trucks can turn around 🤷🤣, but practical not far from the cellars and free.
