November 7, 2025. Driving the 6 km gravel road to the campsite with a large camper was no problem. The campsite itself was good, but quite full due to many permanent caravans; arriving early is recommended. The brand-new toilet was very clean! No water, no rubbish bins! No cell phone reception! We felt comfortable.
A great place, the road is certainly a bit special but not at all difficult, we are in a van but we saw a very large caravan coming without problems. The toilets are in great condition and the beach is just magnificent. You should know that there are caravans abandoned or rarely used by their owners on the camp but don't panic, no one squats in them because they are very isolated.
Amazing spot, toilets are closed until labour weekend though.
Closed in winters!!
The road in was quite muddy in places and very narrow. Virtually one way if you are in a large campervan. When we got there lots of old caravans occupied many sites but not occupied by people. Spectacular place with terrible access.
Great spot, 6km of gravel road, road maintained by Council so can be a bit rough at times like all gravel road. Large motorhomes drive slowly, if you meet another car coming other way, stop and pass each other slowly, road is OK But always a bit stressful when you are not sure where you are going, but life is an adventure, and there is a reward at the end.
Fab spot but the drive in for a truck and caravan was seriously a bit scary. Wouldn't have wanted to meet anyone coming the other way if you had to back up on the one day bit. Great in the camper tho and a beautiful spot swimming and fishing and bird watching and walks on a 6km beach with no one else around.
Lovely little spot on a long sandy beach. Flush toilet but no drinking water. Limited flat spots available. Similar to other spots on this coast, people try to reserve spots by laying tarpaulins on the ground, or maybe they are just marking out nice spots for visitors?
Closed in daylight savings
One of the best places to camp in New Zealand camped here 4 years in a row. Everyone so friendly. Gets packed around new years but still plenty places to pitch a tent.
