Beautiful natural campsite which I really appreciated.. I walked through the Totara Trial and was most surprised to see Kaka in the forest and they flew around in the morning screeching. Ive been to the fox glacier and I just thought they were cold climate birds but no they were flying around way up here at the Pureora forest. The negative was yes..its still the same ..the long drop toilet is a real downer. Cant DOC at least upgrade their toilets, I dont mind walking further to use the tap.
Previous travellers had left their rubbish in the toilet, would be great for the rest of us if they had taken their rubbish with them. Several good tent sites, but I suspect tents take longer to dry at those. Known for heavy dews. Beautiful night skies, great walks and bike rides. Road to the Forest Tower rough . But worth doing.. Bats. Plenty of birds, possibly one of the best for birdwatchers looking forest birds. .Potentially lots of bikers and trampers. Water should be boiled.
Excellent cheap campsite. Plenty of room. Great place to see some of NZ's rare birds: whiteheads, kaka, Robin, tomtit, kakariki. Bring firewood
This campsite is awesome. Great 4x4 drives through the forestry and native bush. If you are able bodied go find the forest tower and climb.
Lovely spot for bird life but long drop is disgusting - a public health hazard.
Quiet and bird song galore kaka put on a great acrobatic display
Great campsite amongst beautiful bush. Some fire pits and finally cellphone and 4G service
Handy site close to MTB trail. Prolific bird life which is good to hear/see ?
Great campsite. Nice & quiet. Nice view.
Lovely peaceful well maintained DOC site. Lots of nooks and crannies for the tenters cycling the Timber Trail, out of the wind and for small vans. Large sunny grassy area for larger vans. Long drop very clean and tidy with loo roll and hand sanitizer. Kakas, tuis, bell birds to entertain you.
