Stayed early September and there was one other van, beautiful views of Mt Taranaki when the clouds clear, toilets were a bit dingy but fine and we had a peaceful nights sleep!
Went early June. Only people staying - was cold but defo a great spot. Taranaki is right there! Great flushable toilets that were cleaned in the morning. Great place!
Plenty of spaces available, however the road up isn’t wide enough for 2 large vehicles so drive carefully. There are currently roadworks on the road in too so large trucks around. So many walking routes available from the car park, 3 female toilets 2 male but no lights so take a torch. Great view of the mountain.
Loved this place. Perfect base for hiking, spectacular views of the mountain. Very busy Easter weekend but once the crowd cleared out there was room for about 12 vans. Basic toilets open all night. The road in is narrow and windy but sealed. Just take it slow. Absolutely gorgeous!
Reviews fail to mention the last 6kms of access road is a windy one and a half lanes wide with no verge to get out of the way so drive slower than limit just in case but once there its a nice spot
After reading reviews about some dodgy behaviour in some of the freedom camps around taranaki I was a bit axious about staying, but we had no trouble at all and was a lovely quiet crowd the night we stayed. Felt very safe. Car park fills up with day tourists in the morning but we had no issues getting a space in the evening. All on a bit of a slant but we have slept on worse!
Great view of mount Taranaki from this car park ... if cloud cover allows ;-D Toilets okay, with paper; ladies doesn't have a light so I wouldn’t use at night but when you're self-contained its not an issue
Beautiful campsite with mountain backdrop. Long drop toilet is clean with toilet paper provided. Sink available in toilet (no hand soap). There were some rats in the bushes. Site was flat and easy to park. Did a short hike to dawson falls in the afternoon
This place has a lot of rats. Don't say I didn't warn you. It's been a nightmare for me. Pretty area otherwise but im going to have to buy traps or figure out how to get them out of my van now. They were in the parking lot when i arrived and i didnt think much of it but now im almost certain atleast 1 has crawled into the engine area
Nice, quiet parking area with toilets. By late afternoon, the parking lot had filled up with campers.
