Terrible car park, so full of giant pot holes. As other comments said all facilities closed for winter and only 2 portaloos but still $15 per person to stay. We left and stayed at Lake Pukaki site instead.
Extremely convenient location but we decided not to stay there as it is very busy due to the touristy Hooker Valley Track as it shares a parking. Leading to chaotic parking and long lines for the pit toilets, making them extra smelly. Opted to stay at Glentanner instead.
Huge pot holes everywhere. Toilets closed for winter. Freshwater taps also closed. Many animals, like ducks and hares. $15 / person for absolutely no facilities just doesn’t make sense.
Unfortunately you gotta pay cause of the spot, but it is so nice and worth it
This campground is run by the Department of Conservation, so it means this place is spectacular and breathtaking. When you camp there, those snow peaks are around you, so you can watch them day and night. The phone reception is good, you can access to video platform easily.
A very nice place to park for the early morning hikes. I didn’t use the toilets since I used the ones at the public shelter. This place gets very very busy.
Classic DOC moment - just turn the water off and close the toilets instead of actually working towards a solution. The rest of mount cook village has managed to keep their water from freezing, can't be that hard. Not sure why we ate paying for a campsite with no facilities?
Excellent location and perfect view. However, toilet is closed and no water during winter. Wind is super strong at night.
Good camp-site with wonderful views of the mountains...clean flushing toilets with lights...dining hall was big but the lights weren't working so everyone one is cooking by torch light...had sinks and table..
Für 15$ sehr fair, netter shelter, Toiletten sehr sauber
White Horse Hill Campground - From $18
Based on the reviews, White Horse Hill Campground has a mixed reputation. Some reviewers praised the location, which offers stunning views of the mountains and is conveniently located for hiking and outdoor activities. They also appreciated the clean facilities, including toilets and a communal kitchen area. However, others criticized the campground, describing it as a "big car park" with no marked spots, and noted that the facilities can be crowded and dirty, especially due to the number of day trippers visiting the area.
Some reviewers also mentioned that the water supply is often turned off during the winter months, and that there is no shower available on site, although there is a hot shower available in the nearby town for a fee. Overall, it seems that White Horse Hill Campground is a good option for those who don't mind pitching up in a car park and are willing to put up with the occasional drawbacks, as long as they can enjoy the stunning natural surroundings.
It's worth noting that the campground is run by the Department of Conservation, which suggests that it is a special and unique experience. However, it's also recommended to book online in advance, especially for weekends, as spots can fill up quickly.
