Just WOW, a beautiful remote spot off a 10 minute gravel road that's taken care of well. Pretty busy for low season. Not sure if you need to pay or not, as it stands just a part of the camp SEEMS to be to-be-payed-for but either way no one was checking. The beach and the night sky were awe-inducing and also the sunrise was wonderful. Toilet stalls with no flush, non drinkable water sinks and cold showers for the bravest. Stunning all round. Just barely no phone signal but you won't need it.
Holy shit… The mosquitos were SOOO bad!!! I‘ve never seen anything like that in my entire life! I had at least over 100 in my van. I couldn’t kill nearly all of them, so the night was just meh. I also don’t usually write reviews but I felt like I had to share my experience lmao
• Great campsite: large, grassy, flush toilets & cold showers (several blocks), right on beach which is short but interesting (rocky headland at RHS/east end can be accessed between high tides) • Short good gravel road to access. • No mobile signal for SparkNZ at campground but follow the Te Paki track up hill to the open grassy patch to the west/left =👍 • DOC Campsite Pass NOT accepted as site is managed by local iwi - but only $16/pp off-peak. Book online from SH1 before you lose signal.
Beautiful spot on the water perfect for swimming. A fairly quiet place with no bad location. Cold shower but very well and toilet ok. I recommend
Nice and quiet spot. Didn’t see anywhere to pay with cash, office was unattended and no signal to book online. Cold showers were nice, but no doors so we showered in our swim suits. Toilets didn’t smell, and when people actually keep the door closed and lid down- then the bugs stayed out. Lots of possums, made a bit of noise but nothing dramatic! Didn’t have massive mosquito problem- but that is obviously quite dependent on the weather.
WCs are really run down, no fuss. but super nice location! whether you have to pay, I don't know, it was no one in the hut and for payment one didn't have to give a registration...
Exceptional spot right on the beach with a beautiful view. Very limited cell service in some areas. Toilets are okay, but the shower is cold. Be prepared if it's windy!
Beautiful spot, with clean long drop toilets. Cold outdoor showers available. Had to search for a flat pitch but found an available one. No cell service.
Shower okay, pit toilet, super beautiful beach! There was also cell service in some places.
A really lovely campsite right by the sea with plenty of space and showers (cold water). However, there were also lots of mosquitoes and almost no cell service. We really enjoyed our stay there.
