We took the road and its closed now due to some storm and flooding (8.11.24). My tyre broke on the way back, they say you should only do it in a 4WD.
A beautiful spot. The road isn't for the faint hearted, the locals call it "Puncture Alley". Be prepared for horrendous Sandflies, no insect repellants work, so cover up.
Gravel road in exellent condition until camp. Good for vans but not motorhomes as road get narrow. Is a long way but you can stop in the middle at Borland Bivvy and make the Green Lake hike which is awesome.
If u can get here it's just awesome choose the time of year and take the bike out to doubtful sound, even Captain Cook declared it the best air in the world
Access road was closed, so unable to get there
Beautiful spot and not to bad to get to other then I popped a tire.BUT I left somthing dear to me down there if somone is heading there soon please text me at 028 411 5606 and you will be rewarded
DO NOT GO THERE!!! The campingground really isn't worth the road! It's 43 km gravel road and not a normal gravel road. You have to pass rivers and really big stones and some parts are really steep. When you arrive there after 1 and a half hour drive you will find a very disgusting toilet without toiletpaper. When you wake up in the morning you'll be eaten by thousands of sandflys and the hummels will enter your car if you don't pay attention.
Road not recommended for camper vans and/or sleeper vans (2wd)!!! We are in 4x4 and road gets hectic towards the end. We stopped to pull a van out of the ditch about 40mins from the campsite.
WARNING! This place is the hell of the Sandflys. It may be that it is beautiful there, but there is no way to enjoy nature there, as the Sandflys will break you in seconds! They also ignore all sprays, these beasts are evil!
Stayed here last month and it’s beautiful! So peaceful and quiet. BEWARE OF SANDFLIES!! They are no joke here. Covered in hundreds the moment you step out of a vehicle. Makes it near to impossible to enjoy the serene lake and view. Did the drive in a Toyota Estima and didn’t have a problem; big vehicles might be an issue especially when wet. Drive took about 1.5hr to complete safely. Drive not for the faint hearted but spectacular views!
