Parking directly on the side of the road. We didn't stay overnight as it was too visible and we were the only camper.
It's still mosquito hell!! We stopped here cause it was late and we were tired from driving. Had to leave after 1 hour as lots and lots of mosquito's still got into the van, despite all windows etc being closed. Just keep driving until kumera Junction of Greymouth!!
Yes, there are LOADS of sandflies, but if you use this spot just for sleeping, and try to keep everything closed (also the ventilation like mentioned before) and use repellent, you should be fine.
Don't stay here! We thought others were exaggerating about the mosquitos, but they worked they way in to our van all through the night some how. The doors had been shut for hours. We'd killed every one we found but they kept coming in and covering the ceiling. Very sure it was through the vents. We left at 11pm and found that you can stay for a donation in the Kumara rec area car park up the road. Lovely clean loos, open 24/7. It's next to the Empire Cafe
Nice clean space just off the road. Space enough for maybe 6-8 cars. We stopped for our first night in the campervan but decided to leave as we were the only one there. No toilets
Nice quiet spot not too much traffic noise. Please stop complaining about lack of toilets it's for SELF CONTAINED vehicles use your own. If you aren't then don't stay, be a responsible camper!!!
We didn't have a choice but to sleep here. Reading the previous reviews we tried our best to not let mosquitoes or sandflies in. We woke up at 6am (we were absolutely destroyed, it would have been earlier if not) with like 30-50 mosquitoes. I wish I was exagerating... Someone else I think had the same experience as us, they slept there and were gone when we woke up and left. ...If you can, don't stay here
Yep, no toilets.
Tons of mosquitoes everywhere. We even had to leave in the middle of the night, because it was so bad. We killed a couple of them in our car before going to sleep, but after a few hours there were 30new ones, they found their way in (probably through engine) haha Just go somewhere else, itβs just a parking lot
It is just an area next to the road. No toilets and many sand flies near the small river. Calm place during the night.
