Athough the toilets aren't the best the rest of the place is beautiful. I had no problems with the locals and spent several days there. Getting back to nature, hunting and gathering your own food is a extra bonus but if that isn't your thing, then be well stocked with food, the weather there seems to change without warning and the roads are not the safest to travel on in the rain with alot of surface flooding, its best to just stay put!!. Also go with plenty of batteries for your torch because apart from the stars in the sky it is pitch black, its eerily quiet,no traffic, no close neighbours and alot of history, myths and local tales. It really is a place for a bottle of beer , a camp fire and a good ol' ghost story.
This beautiful camp is now managed by tuhoe and the charge. Not worth that .
Nice Place, directly next to a beautiful river. Just watch out to not step in horse poo, which is literally all over the place xD I have to admit, that the toilets aren‘t clean and there is no light, but the forest is totally worth it. And you won‘t spend more than like five minutes a day on the loo. One more thing: i am travelling alone as a girl and i was staying one night all alone. The next day, someone like a ranger came and talked to me. All of a sudden, he asked if he could kiss me and wanted to hug me several times. Well... Just watch out girls, nothing happend, because i left immediately.
Very nice spot, BUT the toilets! Horrible! Never saw this before in my 3 months travelling! Went further....
Great big grass area. Next to a beautiful river and in the middle of rain forest! Fire places and picnic tables. Even a (dirty) flush toilet. We were the only ones apart from some wild horses just around our car. Even though we didn't feel to be welcome by the locals it was great!
Very horny place! Very quiet and right on the river! Toilets ok! But the biggest shortcoming 15 km gravel road until then so best go when it's still light
