Awesome spot! Don't get the negativity from some people. Well worth the drive for a night over. Drove our lwb high roof transit over which was totally fine. Beautiful hidden remote spot with some very nice hot springs. Great fishing in the river. Only wouldn't recommend going with a big campervan or when raining.

Who ever wants to say that this is a shit camp side is Laing! The way is a bit different to other gravel roads but if you are not completely disabled with your driving skills and you have two healthy eyes then you can easily do it! The camp side is clean also the toilets there! The hot pools are more than hot and worth it to go there! My Misses and I sleep in the Hut before the hot pools and it was clean as well! Everything at all a nice and romantic experience!! German approved!!

Don't think about going here. Firstly, you have to go through. 20 kilometers of off-road trip not well maintained and you have to be a really good driver to go through it. Secondly This place and all this area has no signal at all. So I was not able to navigate back. The toilet Is disgusting filled with bugs and animals. The hot pools are actually cold and dirty And it is far from EVERYTHING

Nice spot. Road isn’t really suitable for anything bigger than a transit van. Definitely not suitable for a caravan. There’s long steep windy sections with no passing bays and it’s reasonably busy so if you meet someone it’s going to be awkward.

A great little spot and hardly anyone else camping - probably due to the entrance road. Unsealed, windy and steep yet very manageable if a confident driver. We took our campervan which is not 4wd, was slow climbing some of the hills but did not ‘struggle’. Lovely getaway in the middle of nowhere yet still so close to Napier.

Great adventure getting here! The last 7-8km of road are pretty narrow so if you don’t want to meet anyone best come in during the week or early in the morning. We drove our 6m 4WD Camper in, (didn’t use 4WD), took 1 hour 45 mins from Napier, but we were glad not to meet another vehicle over the final kms! One river ford and a couple of narrow bridges, so check weather forecast, but a dozen cars up here to walk tracks etc at same time as us. The isolated DOC Camp and hot springs in the bush are great, and so is the hike up river on the Te Puia Track.

One of our favourite spots in the north island that we frequently have camped at. Beautifully remote (no cellphone signal), stunning valley and Mohaka river, hot pools glorious, stars just incredible! You can really be in nature here. Also the beginning of a great little 2hr hike in to Te Puia hut.

If you have a 4 wheel drive or a pick up truck, the place is accessible. However, the road to get there is VERY steep and also dangerous. Always avoid going there if it is a rainy day. Crossing the flood is generally no big deal. The hard part is going uphill and driving through the mountain. The scenery is beautiful, but not worth it for so much petrol

Really good . Place is large . Lots of tent sites . Bathing pool . Good quality . Take your rubbish out with you . And ..... No Fires . ?....
