Excellent secluded campsite by the riverside. No phone reception, so make your bookings before arriving. Sadly the walks starting at the campsite were closed due to no bridge when we were there...
Stayed here for one night and it was beautiful! There’s loads to explore around the site and plenty of spaces to park. I’d still recommend booking online ahead of time though. There are untreated water pumps and drop toilets. Only a 10 minute drive from the Routeburn Track Trailhead. Gorgeous views! Quite a few sandflies.
Un site du DOC incroyable. Des vues magnifiques, a voir ! des sandflies par contre...
Wonderful campingsite surrounded by mountains and close to the Routeburn track. Quiet at night, but lots of sandflies!
Decent campsite close to the routeburn track however one of the smelliest toilets I've had to endure. We tried Kinloch first but the road was so rough we stopped after a mile and turned back, heading for Sylvan. Road to here isn't too bad, just the usual slow pace and you'll get here. Sandflies aren't too bad either as long as you're wearing bug spray, turned out there were more busy bees checking out vans and at one point we saw about 20 buzzing about a L300... Oh and if you can hold off in the morning for your no.2 the toilets at the start of the routeburn are some fancy 5* long drops - worth the wait.
Beautiful location. Camping benches newt to each space. Sandflies everywhere though, try getting there as late as possible to avoid
One of the nicest doc camping spots I’ve found in NZ!
Lovely little private spot! I had actually booked two nights at Mrs Woollys but when I arrived there it just wasn't my idea of a camp site. I took the road up to this camp site (it is unsealed and corrugated) but it was a beautiful drive to a very neat little spot on the river. Long drop toilets (a little on the nose in summer) but couldn't smell a thing at the camp spot. Private spots with picnic tables and some lovely shady spots. I highly recommend heading out here when staying in Glenorchy if you can go without a shower for the night.
Beautiful place, you have privacy, quiet, beautiful night sky. Drop toilets, a bit smelly but its normal. Stayed two nights, no ranger in sight. Awful gravel road to get there as usual, but not too bad. Good starting point for routeburn track and lots of walks around. Sandflies will eat your face off, ended up spending mornings and evenings in the van. Would come again
Beautiful spot, very few people, nice and quiet with great views and a river with a bathing pool carved out! Couldn’t book online so brought cash to pay. Sandflies were especially bad in the AM when there wasn’t a breeze to keep them at bay (but I think it’s just that time of year and they’d be bad anywhere)
