Almost staying there, when I just arrived and open the car to take my stuff out for 1 min, my car was already filled with sandflies. Decided to leave immediately. And the road was very bumpy. Fought sandflies the entire way out.
Great location facing the lake, good amount of room. Cost 10 dollars to DOC , sandflies and long drop very smelly.
Toilets never cleaned properly maintained, lots of sandflies but this is the situation all round this area. No point staying here, you might as well camp at the start of the earnslaw track
Wonderful place, worst maintenance. Place has amazing view, close to lake, close to hiking starting points and lotr scene fields. But let’s say u wanna drink coffee, there are thousands of flies attack u. Morning, night same. No waste management. Toilets are also not good. Phone signal is not bad. (Spark)
This is the worst campsite I’ve ever stayed in, I cannot believe you have to pay to stay here. The toilets are vile and made me gag, the access to the lake is filled with spilt oil, and the thousand of sandflies attack you instantly. This is a terrible place to stay and we left after less than an hour and got a refund! Avoid.
Fine spot. Lake views were great but made for a LOT of midges naturally. Toilets were pretty stinky and had no reception. Forrest behind campsite was great to explore and walk around in. Access road was gravelly but do-able in a van, would avoid in heavy rain.
Fantastic location! The gravel road is fine for a large campervan. Only the last stretch is narrow, but oncoming traffic moved out of the way easily. Definitely adequate cell phone reception!
If you’re looking for a rugged, off a beaten path site in the middle of the forest, this is for you! No amenities, but the serenity is lovely. Know that the access road is quite long and very uneven.
The worst place we’ve stayed. I can’t believe you have to pay for this site! The road to get there is just stones for about 10km. It’s extremely bumpy and difficult to drive in a campervan. It’s cheaper than others but you probably spend extra on fuel on the awful road. There were also loads of little flies and no phone signal.
Ok for a night with a lovely view (lake view not the same as Glenorchy mountain views). Toilets were stinky but usable. Nice little grass patch for max 3 small tents. Lots of sandflies after 7pm and in the morning. Bumpy gravel road to get here, take it slowly
