Generally good, just mind a few things: The main parking area with better ground conditions is *on the right*. At the entrance/road end, I accidentally turned to the left and found myself in a very gravely and bumpy road where nobody was around. The grass can get very muddy after rain, be careful where to park. Very exposed and windy unfortunately, but there are some trees which could give shelter. Only one set of toilets, so might be a little walk, but good enough for a night.
Great spot to camp by the lake. Beautiful surroundings with plenty of space to park on flat grassy areas off a gravel road. It's convenient to the Remutaka Hills and Featherston too. We were self contained so didn't need the toilet available which is a bit of a walk from where we decided to park.
A beautiful spot to sleep by the lake! Plenty of space, so you're not crowded. Be careful though, in rainy weather you can get stuck in the grass! It took us an hour to get out with the help of other campers. Luckily they were there. Good phone reception. Very windy, but you can find shelter depending on the spot.
Lovely little spot, drop toilet can get pretty intense at night with insects
Arrived late when heading from north of island, was lots of space available loads of room to park. Some ground not very level. Didn’t use toilets.
Great spot for the night with nice views of the lake and plenty of space. Drop toilets. Flies not bad for us.
Lovely spot to stay the night. Wind was up so no bugs! Toilet is close and usable.
Lots of midges. They don't bite but they are pretty gross and will swarm you. We were lucky as it was super windy so weren't bothered by them too much, but the day we left it was still and they were everywhere. Phone signal was good and toilet was fine. If you don't intend on leaving your van, you'd probably be okay.
Definitely don’t need to be self contained btw
Run away!!! The place may be nice but there are mosquitoes everywhere!!! Clouds of insects, impossible to get out of the van without being attacked
