It was quite windy !!
This was one of our favorite DOC campsites! Very calm spot in beautiful nature. There is a stream nearby to cool down and it is walking distance from several hikes/walks. Perfect spot to stay when doing the Pinnacles Trail. No phone reception. Toilets smell but it did not bother us.
Very nice chill place, a little bit of shadow, few tables, 2 dry toilets, no water or showers but a stream just next to it. Till get there 8km gravel road, very close to start of pinnacle trek.
Almost the only people there and lots of room, no cell service
Quiet and great location. The campsite is very basic, there's two dry toilets. But it's close to the river, and the water is very nice after a hike. You can walk from the campsite to the start of the Pinnacles hike!
Lovely little camp site right next to the river, and only a short walk to some great walking trails and of course the main Pinnacles Hut and Summit track. We got lucky and there wasn't too many people so we're able to maneuver our caravan around, but I imagine if it was a little busier this could get difficult, If that is the case then the Wainora campsite a few hundred metres before Totara Flat would be better suited. Small to Medium size Campervans should be fine.
Really gorgeous spot and perfect if you’re doing the pinnacles. We parked up at the back and were right by the water which was refreshing for a dip. Toilets clean with plenty of toilet paper and sanitizer. Watch out for the eels!
Awesome, feels very remote and secluded. Stayed two nights here. First night it was only one other group with us the second night was busier, because of the weekend. Walking distance (700m) from the starting point for the pinnacles hike. We took the Billygoat track back from the pinnacles, highly recommended! Much less people and really beautiful, although adds 1h to the hike. The river by the campsite is so refreshing to dip in after the hike and drowns other noise in the campsite. Couple of decent toilets.
Such a beautiful spot. Empty so we had the spot right by river. Just perfect. Ideal for The Pinnacles walk. Drop loo very clean
Absolute gem of a campground, especially if you can camp in the one proper river side site, see photos. On entry, turn left and right at the end of the field is the spot right next to the river and easy access down for a swim, all night you can hear the water, it's lovely. Fee per adult, per night, or free with the DOC Camp Pass. Plenty of space for larger campers. No Vodafone signal, nor TV signal. Something the info centre didn't tell us, vehicles over 6tonne cannot get to any of the campsites up here, FYI. Drop loo. Find us on Insta if you're touring @saltyskin or at our blog www. Saltyskin.
