Great location. No view though other than the forest. You need $2 coins for the hot showers.
No potable water, can't close toilets and very dirty, same for shower. The spot is very quiet and beautiful but for a serviced campsite, offers are very poor.
Great location right next to the park. Paid hot showers near the kitchen and a separate toilet block. It was very quiet, save the ruru and occasional kiwi screech :) happy with our stay! Phone signal was spotty, but we usually had enough to send a text out. We booked online before we arrived, but it looked like there were also slips you can fill out onsite and pay cash for.
We used this DOC campsite during Tropical Storm Vaianu and were very well looked after. Water, electricity, hot showers for $2, and at night you could try to spot a kiwi in the adjacent forest.
DOC campsite with good sized powered sites and reasonable shared kitchen. Kauri walk is beautiful and peaceful. Nice natural surroundings with lots of wildlife
Very run-down campground. Toilets were genuinely unpleasant, and the shared facilities didn’t look much better. Powered sites are available, although our power post appeared to double as an insect graveyard. Heavy rain ruled out the Kauri walk, and there’s no mobile reception — which means you’re fully present for the experience.
Incredible location right next to the park, very quiet and plenty of space. Equipped kitchen, hot shower for $2 (coins only), no free cold shower. Weak signal but it does the job. Go for a walk in the park at night, you might see kiwis (I did 😁) but be sure to use a red light.
Perfect location, direct access to the park's short walking trail (we were lucky enough to see a kiwi at night ☺️). Clean toilets, hot shower for $2 (no cold shower), equipped kitchen, sites with electricity. Plenty of space, but be sure to book through the DOC website. Very limited cell service.
Really loved this campground! Very clean, peaceful and hot shower for 2$. You can see a lot of rabbits run around. Only bad thing was I had no luck to see kiwi 😔 maybe next time.
Love this spot but just a warning if you have a larger campervan sized camper, it's really hard to make the turn into the grass field that makes up the unpowered sites. Even the powered sites are pretty tricky depending on who's already there and how they've parked. Still highly recommend but led to some creative camping spots for us!
